  1. Ask for case studies:

This might seem redundant to few, but reviews and proof of work alone might not show you one’s work ethic. If you are working with someone who is an interior designer, ask them to share if they have got any case studies. Most professionals would have a case study ready to go and would be more than happy to share them with you. It will allow you to see how the independent proprietor approaches problem, their reasoning leading to solution. A case study often shows the difference between someone who has all the necessary skills on paper, compared to someone who has on-hand work experience and dealt with tackling tasks.

You get to learn a lot about an individual, is by sitting down with them. It can seem like an interview process, but until you sit down with them or at least talk to them over the phone, you won’t have any idea who they are. People’s body language tells a lot about an individual. You also need to see if you can work with them if it’s a long-term on-site project. No one wants to work with someone who is loud or obnoxious, not punctual or disrespectful to others. By sitting down with them, you get to get a better picture of who they are as individuals.

Often freelancers can get stuck within their own creative zone and often miss out on what the client wants. When working with an independent contractor make sure to see if they can follow direction of your vision. Ask them questions and see how they respond. If there is a clash in creativity or conflict in management, it's better to encounter that in the beginning than in the middle of the project.

Experience is vital to the completion of the project and it all depends on what you need.
